Sugar Maple (Acer saccharum)
$20.00 – $24.00
Sugar maple is a hard maple that thrives on deep, well-drained soils, especially in regions where the soil has a limestone component (calcareous). Sugar maple is highly-prized for its sap, from which syrup and sugar are made. It often forms large stands in the shelter of other trees in mixed forests, but rarely in the open. In some areas it dominates the landscape. The sugar maple grows to a height of 20 to 35 metres tall, with a straight trunk and a rounded narrow crown, and has wide-spreading roots. The hard maples take about 30 years to reach maturity.
